My name is Janet Weimer, I have been working as a decorative artist for 15 years, gainingĀ a broad range of experience. My philosophy is “If it stands still I’ll paint on it if it can enhance and personalize your environment.” I started out doing mainly faux finishes, murals, and furniture. Although I still enjoy doing murals and interesting challenging faux finishes, my work has evolved toward more hand-painted furniture and accessories, commissioned canvases (pet portraits in particular), glass and acrylic ornaments, glassware, and hand-painted fabric items (totes and pillows). Two of my favorite sources of inspiration are nature in general and animals in particular. In my pet portraits, I take pleasure in capturing an animals personality and unique qualities.

One of my more interesting and satisfying opportunities recently has been to develop and execute faux finishes, interpreting some of the past wall coverings, to aid in the restoration of the living room and entry hall walls at The Anne Spencer Museum here in Lynchburg, VA.

My educational background includes drafting and color studies at The International Institute of Interior Design in D.C., and a concentration of studio art and art history at the University of MN and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. I completed a B.A. in Communication-English at Randolph-Macon which led to a total of six years of work in the interior design field.
